Staff try out track before re-opening!

Thursday, June 26th, 2014

Yes, the Grand Re-opening will soon be here!  A few more touches of paint here and there, a good clean-up of buildings and very shortly the MPLR will be looking more like its old self.  Today staff were very pleased to be able to take Ron out to try out the track, just making sure that everything is as it should be.  NOt only that, but they made a short film of it for you to taste the delights of the MPLR.  Lots of things are still under wraps so we are not giving too much away but there is a little bit of information at the end of the film which just gives you an idea of what’s in store for a visitor to the Moreton Pit Light Railway!

Work advancing well on refurbishments..

The staff are still hard at it, getting the MPLR looking as good as they can for this summer.  Work on the Pitz Cafe has been completed, along with a new car park and road!  One of the biggest jobs has been restoring the roof and bell tower of St Thomas Chapel!  The Reverend Grubb is very pleased with the result and is hoping one day that Moreton Pit will be able to hear the sounds of its very own bells!

The Board of Directors are also very pleased and relieved that they now legally own Moreton Pit land and are very busy turning the Pit into a Museum and Visitor Centre.  They hope that this will attract a lot more visitors to the railway!  More about this very soon.
