The replacement for the prototype track cleaner entered service today. Powered by a 24v motor and driven through a reduction gearbox, it is much more powerful and efficient than the earlier version. We hope that Albert can be persuaded to drive it. As regular readers will remember, from an earlier diary entry, he pulled a strop over the prototype version. Still, this one has a cab and radio fitted so who knows?

Here the machine is sent off on its first trail run. It cleared twigs and gravel very well indeed, with 4 wheel drive and plenty of weight it should cope with most detritus encountered on the line…
Finally, the track cleaner crosses Redbridge on its way back to the station following a very succesful run. It will be a very useful addition to the MPLR and should help to ensure a good and efficient service to all our customers this coming summer.
